Roger , Serena and Wilson

A year removed from one of the most dramatic losses of his career ,
Roger Federer redeemed himself Sunday on Centre Court ,
staving off resilient American Andy Roddick
5-7
, 7-6 ( 8-6 ) , 7-6 ( 7-5 ) , 3-6 , 16-14
in the longest Grand Slam final in history .

Outstanding tennis , perfect manners .
Andy Roddick gives Roger Federer a hug
just after Federer's victory .

Jaden's P.O.V :
It was downhill for Federer . Roddick was serving tremendously well in the first set , overpowering the Swiss champ . But I personally knew Federer will win this year's Wimbledon until the moment where Andy's backhand were in touch and with such precision , my hopes and predictions vanished into thin sight .

It took 4 hours, 16 minutes , five sets and 77 games for Federer
to secure the final win on Sunday .
Federer served a career-high 50 aces and overcame the resilient
Roddick 5-7 , 7-6 (6) , 7-6 (5) , 3-6, 16-14 —

the longest match and longest fifth set in Grand Slam
final history in terms of games .

During the second set however , Federer forced Roddick into a tie breaker . Which Roddick made a forehand mistake , eventually leading the set in favor of Federer .
At that moment , I'm thinking , " God , may Roger find his first set an inspiration to keep going . "
Which he did . Federer won another set after that .

The fourth set was a dangerous one . In this case , with Federer having two sets in hand compared to the American ace of only one , all Federer has to do in the fourth set is to win it and this year's Wimbledon is as good as his .
But at the 2nd game , Federer dropped a game and in an instance Roddick was in the driver's seat . How strong and skilled the Swiss may be , the set was all Roddick's .

The fifth set was an amazing display of tennis . Perfect in every way .
Roddick and Federer both showed incredible stamina and determination . Both not wanting to drop a set , they played on , and on , and on , and on and on .
In the last set , there was no tie breaker , therefore one of them must win a break point to achieve victory . However , Roddick's strong service was not capable of taking the Swiss down that easily. Federer on the other hand , did not find the code to break Roddick's serve .
The two men battled it out until Federer reached championship point during Roddick's service game . With the shadow on Federer's side of the court , a huge forehand from the Swiss sealed the deal with Roddick hitting the ball sky-high .

I knew Federer would win . Although he gave me quite a fright .
Because the thing about Federer is , that you have to break his serve in order to win . In which case , the fourth set .
If he plays with you till the tie-breaker , he's the one to win (proven after various observations throughout the Wimbledon) .

In this legendary match , the greats such as Bjorn Borg , Rod Laver , John McEnroe and Pete Sampras was there to witness the Swiss at work . Hollywood stars like Russel Crowe and Woody Allen was there too . Not to mention , Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson .

Bjorn Borg , Pete Sampras , Roger Federer
and Rod Laver .

Now , Roger Federer has surpassed Pete Sampras's Grand Slam record of 14 , became the 6th man to win all types of 4 Grand Slams ( along with Bjorn Borg , Pete Sampras and Rod Laver ) , and has reclaimed his rank as World Number One tennis player , dethroning Rafael Nadal .

History was made , and in a hundred years time , Roger Federer , will continue to be remembered world-wide , as the greatest tennis player of all time .

P/s : Adam D , I know you really wanted Andy to win . But the fact is , Roger's a natural winner . Haha .
Pp/s : Roger Federer served a record of 50 aces throughout the game .
Yes , aces people . Aces means , a serve in which your opponent cannot receive ( either because the ball was too fast or it generated too much spin ) .

************

Serena Williams ended a six-year wait for her third Wimbledon
title with a 7-6, 6-2 victory over big sister Venus .

Jaden's P.O.V :
Serena was playing tremendously well . I anticipated the win of her elder sister , Venus as the winner of this year's Wimbledon but Serena came out on top . Surprisingly .
I am a big Serena Williams fan , whether she wins or loses . But this win of hers really reinforced the meaning , " do not count your chickens before they are hatched . "
So here's the twist ;

Serena spent 2 hours 40 minutes plus against Elena Dementieva ( the longest semi final in Wimbledon history ) . She nearly lost after dropping the first set , but ended up winning two sets later .
Venus however , destroyed semi-finalist , World No. 1 Dinara Safina by a shameful 6-1 , 6-0 in a short period of less than an hour ( 50 minutes plus ) .

In the finals , the odds were clearly against Serena as her performance at the semi finals was terrible . Terrible indeed .

But during the finals , Serena showed an impressive showdown against her sister , with mighty forehands and the occasional lobs which will go past her sister and land in the court . Her service was definitely BETTER than the previous game she had . Venus , failed to convert two break points for a 5-3 lead as Serena hit a high-bouncing second serve that clipped off the line and the defending champion sent a forehand passing over the baseline in an open court . The game ended in a 7-6 , 6-2 win for Serena Williams .

Amazingly , Serena isn't world No.1 at the moment , despite adding the
Wimbledon title to her US Open and Australian Open crowns .

The William Sisters also took back home the woman's doubles titles after defeating Aussie pair , Samantha Stoser and Rannae Stubbs by 7-6 , 6-4 .

All stretched .
