The Wine & The Event: Beaujolais Nouveau

Beaujolais is a medium-dry, fruity burgundy wine produced in the French region of Beaujolais wines are made exclusively from Gamay grapes. which have have a thin skin and are low in tannin.
Beaujolais nouveau is a type of Beaujolais wine that is drunk almost as soon as it has been made. It is fermented for just a few weeks then officially released for sale on the third Thursday of November. This "Beaujolais Day" is accompanied by publicity events and heavy advertising. The traditional slogan, even in English-speaking countries, was “Le Beaujolais nouveau est arrivĂ©!” (literally, "The new Beaujolais has arrived!"), but in 2005 this was changed to "It's Beaujolais Nouveau Time!". In the United States, it is promoted as a drink for Thanksgiving, which falls a week after the wine is released.
In the UK there is a competition to see who can bring the first bottles from France to England.
