Croquet in UK and US

Croquet is a game played on grass in which players knock wooden balls through hoops (= small metal arches) with a mallet (= long-handled wooden hammer). Croquet was popular formerly in Britain, but is quite unusual nowadays except in some parks or gardens.

In the UK, croquet is mostly thought of as a game played by upper class people. In the US, croquet is usually played by families or children in their own garden.
