Roger Federer , has entered the third round of the US Open , defeating Simon Greul by 6-3 , 7-5 , 7-5 .
Both Serena and Venus Williams advanced to the third round of the US Open . Serena destroyed Melinda Czink by 6-1 , 6-1 where else Venus nearly lost to Bethhanie Mattek-Sands by 6-4 , 6-2 due to a heavy strapped knee .

Rafael Nadal of Spain cruised through after defeating Richard Gasquet by a comprehensive 6-2 , 6-2 , 6-3 .
Andy Roddick of America destroyed Bjorn Phau at his first round of the US Open while Andy Murray of Great Britain advanced with a 7-5 , 6-3 , 7-5 win over Ernests Gulbis .
Novak Djokovich of Serbia won Croatian Ivan Ljubicic by a 6-3 , 6-1 , 6-3 . But fellow Serbian Ana Ivanovich was defeated at her first round of the US Open by Kateryna Bodarenko of Ukraine .

Maria Sharapova of Russia destroyed Tsvetana Pirinkova by a 6-3 , 6-0 win , while comeback-mother Kim Clijsters triumphs after defeating Marion Bartoli of France .
Jo Wilfried Tsonga of France demolished 18 year old American newcomer , Chase Buchanan . The frenchman wasn't challenged at all by this 18 year old teen who was a wildcard entrant to the tournament . The frenchman won all 3 sets by 6-0 , 6-2 , 6-1 .
