Name Origins: The Forbidden City

The Forbidden City, now known as the Palace Museum is an enormous historical palace and an art museum located in the historical center of Beijing, China. The site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is of tremendous historical and architectural value.
This area is surrounded by a wall. It is called the Forbidden City because in former times no one, except the imperial (= royal) family -and their servants- was allowed to enter it, but now it is open to the public and attracts a lot of tourists.
