Dubbing, A Ceremony from the Middle Ages

Dub means (of a king or queen) to make (someone) a knight by a ceremonial touch on the shoulder with a sword and by giving him the title “Sir” before his name. The man who is being dubbed kneels for the ceremony. At the end the king/queen says
“Arise/Rise Sir…” This ceremony is known from stories from the Middle Ages, and is still used regularly in Britain when men are given national honours.
