Special Vocabulary: Jelly

The term jelly may refer to:

Gelatin, a clear substance obtained from boiled animal bones, used for making jellies.
Gelatin dessert (a soft quite solid substance which shakes when it is moved), referred to as jelly in Britain and other countries, popular brands include Jell-O, Rowntree's and Hartley's
Fruit preserves, called 'jelly' in North America, specifically a clear fruit spread
Aspic, a dish containing broth with gelatin, served cold
Gel, a solid, jelly-like material that can have properties ranging from soft and weak to hard and tough
Salve, medical ointment
Jellyfish, a sea creature that has a soft nearly transparent body and that sometimes stings
Jelly fungus, the class Heterobasidiomycetes
Jelly shoes, shoes made of a soft plastic, resembling sandals
Naval jelly, phosphoric acid in a rust removing gel
Petroleum jelly, a gel used as a topical ointment
Royal jelly, made by bees and fed to the larvae to turn them into queen bees
Temazepam, a powerful hypnotic drug, street name "Jellies"
The vitreous humour of the eyes

The term jelly used in confectionery:

Jelly bean, small and usually having a hard candy shell and chewy interior
Jelly baby, a type of soft confectionery in the shape of babies in a variety of colours
Jelly roll (Am. E. for Swiss roll) a cake baked in a thin piece rolled up with a sweet substance (jam or cream) inside
Swedish Fish, a type of quasi-gummi chewy candies shaped like fish
Gumdrop, brightly-colored gelatin- or pectin-based pieces, shaped like a truncated cone and coated in granulated sugar
Gummi bears are gelatin-based candies that come in a variety of shapes and colours
