Very British: Fair Isle Jumpers
Fair Isle is a style of knitting or knitted garment having bands of a repeated pattern worked in several colours against a plain background. This style of knitting came from Fair Island, an island off Scotland, lying around halfway between Shetland and the Orkney Islands. Fair Isle is also famous for its permanent bird observatory, founded by George Waterston in 1948.
