After pounding Shahar Peer and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova respectively by Venus Williams and Francesca Schiavone , both Venus and Schiavone are set for a showdown at the quarter finals of the US Open .

Two time champion here at the US Open will battle against this year's reigning champion of the French Open at Flushing Meadows for a spot in the semi-finals where they will meet the winner of a Stosur-Clijsters match-up .
I guess it all comes down to whether Venus can dominate the game as quickly as possible . If she is able to be consistent and throw power serves to Francesca , I'm pretty sure she can quickly push aside the Italian . However , Schiavone has proven to the world that she is GrandSlam material during the French Open 2010 thus , anything can happen . But in the end , just for old times sake , my money's on Venus .
And speaking of which , another thunderous showdown will be going on as defending champion Kim Clijsters will face Samantha Stosur of Australia at the quarter finals here at the US Open .

Top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark handles everything the14th-seeded Russian throws at her in a straight-set win .
Russian Maria Sharapova was dispatched by world number two , Caroline Wozniacki in straight sets of 6-3 , 6-4 .
Being a dominating force all this while , Sharapova failed to conquer world number two Wozniacki here at the Flushing Meadows .
Roger Federer continued his smooth progress through the US Open draw with astraight-sets win over 13th seed Jurgen Melzer in round four .
The five-time champion was in good form as he eased to a 6-3 , 7-6 ( 7-4 ) , 6-3 victory in the night session .
Federer had some luck in the second set tie-break with two net-cords and had to recover from a break down in the third , but was always in control of the match .
The Swiss will play fifth seed Robin Soderling in the quarter-finals .
