If you've been my friend on Facebook for any length of time, you've seen me go on tears about how much I hate people talking on their cell phones in the bathroom at work. After all, I actually feel guilty about flushing the toilet or turning on the faucet because I don't want to interrupt the apparently extremely time-sensitive conversation the other person is having.
Many of my friends have told me, "screw it, they know the risks when they go in there, you should start making grunting noises and be as obnoxious as you can." I haven't gone that far, though the thought has crossed my mind. Maybe I'm just old-school, but I really don't think you need to be on the phone while you're going to the bathroom.
Now, that's one issue, but with the widespread use of texting, now we have people dropping their phones in the toilet and getting stuck trying to fetch them. Really? Really? Is returning the text that damn important? Personally, I'd rather leave the text conversation hanging than to be the person with my pants around my ankles, laying on a bathroom floor covered in God-only-knows-what, trying to reach my phone, while simultaneously calling for help, and then subsequently having to be rescused by the fire department. No thank you, I can deal without the public humiliation that brings.
Apparently, though, this is a widespread issue - below are links to stories about this happening - twice in China and once in France. God knows how many more just haven't made the news.

So, to the people I regularly text, if I all of the sudden drop off the face of the Earth, rest assured, it's because I dropped my phone in the toilet, but I am too smart to go fetch it. It may take me a couple days to return your text simply because I will be getting a new phone as well. Um, yeah, ew. Let the sewer keep that one, it's okay.
