On Friday morning a computer problem arised as RBC Bank was unable to pay for goods and services. It is said that problem is actually at a company that processes debit cards of RBC bank.
RBC officials said upto 11am the problem was resolved and some customers had reported their accounts are back to normal.
The glitch affected RBC's customers in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Florida and Alabama, officials said.
TSYS, a Columbus, Ga.-based firm that processes transactions for the bank, said the problem is "a processing error."
A customer in Raleigh tells WRAL their account was at negative $61,699.61. WFMY News 2 received a call from a Kernersville RBC customer saying his account showed a negative $15,000 balance this morning.
We also received an email from a Centura customer saying "Centura bank is having major "system-wide problems" today. My personal account is short $2700. The 800 number was busy so I called the local branch. They told me I would have to come inside the bank to access my funds until they are able to fix the problem."
One WFMY News 2 employee and RBC customer immediately checked her bank account after hearing the reports. "I'm glad I found about this problem before I used my debit card. I can't even imagine what it would be like to see my account lose thousands of dollars."
