Francis Bacon, the philosopher
Sir Francis Bacon, (January 22 1561 — April 9 1626), was an English philosopher, statesman, and author. He has been described as one of the greatest thinkers ever whose ideas have changed the way people think.
He was made Baron Verulam in 1618, and Viscount St Albans in 1621. Because he didn't have children both titles ended when he died.
Some people believe that he wrote some or all of Shakespeare's plays. Click here to read more about this:

Francis Bacon, the artist
Francis Bacon (28 October 1909 – 28 April 1992) was an Irish-born British figurative painter. He is known for painting people and animals in twisted shapes, with dark, strong colours. His artwork is known for its bold, austere, homoerotic and often violent or nightmarish imagery, which typically shows room-bound masculine figures isolated in glass or steel geometrical cages set against flat, nondescript backgrounds.Since his death, Bacon's reputation has steadily grown. He continues to draw admiration and disgust in equal measures; Margaret Thatcher famously described him as "that man who paints those dreadful pictures".
