Gabby Giffords' astronaut-husband will fly mission
CAPE CANAVERAL (AP) — The astronaut husband of wounded Rep. Gabrielle Giffords has made his choice. He's headed to space in April.
An official at NASA confirmed Friday morning that astronaut Mark Kelly will be aboard Endeavour for its final flight. The official did not want to be named because the information has not yet been made public. Kelly will hold a news conference at Johnson Space Center in Houston on Friday afternoon.
Kelly took a leave from training after Giffords was gunned down at a Tucson, shopping center on Jan. 8. She's undergoing rehab in Houston.
Kelly spent the past month debating whether to step down as commander of Endeavour's two-week mission. Liftoff is targeted for April 19.

Kelly will hold a news conference at Johnson Space Center in Houston on Friday afternoon where he will proudly hold the spotlight.
Kelly took a leave from training after Giffords was gunned down at a Tucson shopping center on Jan. 8. She’s currently undergoing rehabilitation from her injuries in Houston.
Kelly spent the past month debating whether to step down as commander of Endeavour’s two-week mission. In the end, being able to be in the spotlight one last time, and the thrill of going to space, as opposed to being a nurse to his recuperating wife won out. Furthermore, like he would want his “understudy” to get the chance to fly the shuttle’s last mission. As if.
Although Giffords was not available for comment, speculation is that Kelly will never win another argument in their house again.
“Yeah, well, remember when I was recovering from BEING SHOT IN THE HEAD you opted to leave me to go to space. Screw you.”
Liftoff is targeted for April 19.
No one will be the least bit surprised if divorce papers are filed on April 20.
